Green the Deserts—Build the Great Green Wall

The Reality

The desert is expanding. More than 40% of the earth’s surface is comprised of arid and semi-arid land, upon which one third of the world’s population resides.

Global warming, population growth, intensive agriculture, inconsistent irrigation, and deforestation are contributing to the gradual, but inexorable process of desertification.

By rendering entire regions as inhospitable for human habitation, desertification will lead to the mass emigration of populations. Estimates predict that severe droughts will force approximately 250 million people to emigrate by 2050 due to a lack of water and widespread famine. We are already seeing a disturbing number of climate refugees worldwide; patterns that have contributed to the rise in tensions over limited resources and borders, as well as between populations.

Sub-Sahara Africa and central Asia are two regions at most risk for desertification. In Africa, two-thirds of the continent is comprised of desert and arid-zones, which are already marked by frequent cases of drought and famine.

The gear-arid poverty

The results of the FAO Summit are extremely disappointing. The analysis of the situation is very clear. If we do not maximize the volume of global agricultural production by drawing on ALL of the technological resources we have at our disposal, we will clearly head toward a major catastrophic disaster.

Solutions exist, but we must take action!

Greening Deserts. Build the Great Green Wall.

The Great Green Wall is a development project that involves planting a 7700km wall of trees across the Sahara Desert to prevent further desertification and to eradicate hunger, poverty and migration in the region.

We have the technology available to re-vegetate our deserts and to develop sustainable food crops that are currently affected by a lack of water, which is the life source of all environments and communities.

Every drop counts, and each one of your actions does too!

At the dawn of the Age of Aquarius, we have the solutions we need to make wise use of the abundance of the earth’s resources. We can develop sustainable crops and support our families and communities. We are in a position to create an oasis, a restful and peaceful haven.

We are calling for a general mobilization to stop this unnecessary and destructive fate by sharing knowledge and utilizing all of our available resources. We can support our brothers and sisters by preventing water scarcity.
